Never Happy With a Design
Like most designers out there, I am NEVER happy with the work I complete… even if I have already released it for public consumption. Take this blog design for example; I was happy with what I had created at the time, but now after having this design up for approximately 6 months, I think it’s time for a drastic overhaul. I often wonder if I like the act of blogging, or just desgining a layout for my own blog.
So, here I am. I’ve spent the better part of 2 weeks working on and off (mostly off) on a new web design for this blog, and it’s finally nearing completion, but I have to wonder if it will actually last. There is always something you can tweek, move around, or completely rework to make your design just that much pleasing and when you’re designing your own website, the temptation is even greater.
Now, I’m not saying wanting to redesign something all the time is a bad thing (though it does lead to chain-smoking for me), because it isn’t. It’s practice. Practice is good. I’m just getting tired of making something, then 6 months later absolutely hating the way it looks.
Anywho… For those interested, here’s a great tool for your webdesigning needs:
ColorMatch Remix. This is a small webbased doo-hickey that lets you input the hex value for a color, and get existing complimentary colors. I find it very handy, especailly when I have no clue which color would look good with another. It’s much like the Color Scheme Generator 2 tool that I posted as an iLink a while ago, but a little less intense. Check it out!
